Composite bonding at TG’s Dental Suite

Composite bonding is a cosmetic dental procedure that’s great for covering imperfections in the teeth and providing a quick smile makeover. It involves the application of a tooth-coloured composite resin material to the surface of a tooth and is often used to correct cosmetic imperfections such as chips, cracks, gaps, and discolouration in teeth.

Composite bonding can also be used to reshape teeth or to fill cavities in teeth that are visible when smiling or speaking, and it’s a minimally invasive treatment that can typically be completed in a single visit to the dentist.

Composite bonding can improve
  • Your overall oral health

  • Chipped or cracked teeth

  • Discoloured or stained teeth

  • Tooth function and digestion

Really helpful practice, Angela made me feel very settled and calm as I dislike going dentist. However will be more relaxed next time I go. They also cleaned my teeth really lovely. Thank you

Samantha

The team put me at ease through every step of the process once I had decided on the best option for me (composite bonding and veneers). There were multiple options presented to me and we talked through what would be best. I couldn’t be happier with my teeth

Holly Roberts

Very helpful and friendly staff who make you feel at ease. Information is shared clearly and the care received is excellent. Arrived early for my appointment and was seen a few minutes early.

What is composite bonding?

Arrow Down | Bow Lane Dental Group in London

Composite bonding is a cosmetic dental procedure that involves applying a tooth-coloured resin material to teeth to improve their appearance.

How long does composite bonding last?

Arrow Down | Bow Lane Dental Group in London

How long your composite bonding lasts depends on a few different factors, including the location of the bonded tooth, your oral hygiene habits, and lifestyle factors such as diet and smoking. In general, composite bonding can last for 5 - 7 years with proper care.

Can composite bonding be removed?

Arrow Down | Bow Lane Dental Group in London

Composite bonding can be removed and replaced if necessary. However, removing the bonding material may require taking some of the natural tooth structure as well.

Does composite bonding require special care?

Arrow Down | Bow Lane Dental Group in London

Composite bonding can be maintained with regular brushing, flossing, and dental check-ups. People with composite bonding should avoid biting or chewing on hard objects, such as ice or pens, which can damage the bonded tooth.

The composite bonding process

  • The composite bonding process works by first preparing the tooth's surface. We do this by etching it with a (completely safe) acid solution to create a rough surface that allows the composite material to better adhere to it.

  • Once the tooth has been prepared, the composite resin is applied in layers, with each layer being hardened using a special light. This process allows the dentist to sculpt and shape the composite material to achieve the desired shape and size.

  • After the composite resin has been applied and shaped, it’s nicely polished to match the shine and texture of the surrounding teeth, resulting in a natural-looking smile.
