Can Children Be Affected By TMJ Disorders?

September 9, 2021

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) connects the jaw to the skull, and problems are generally associated with teenagers and adults -- but they can also affect younger children. Jaw deformities and disease can affect the joint, but when TMJ disorders impact on children it is usually caused by:

  • Injury
  • Teeth grinding
  • Misaligned teeth or bite

TMJ disorders related to dental issues can usually be prevented as the dentist can review your child’s oral health and take preventative measures. Whatever the cause, any pain or discomfort in the jaw should not be ignored as prevention is always better than cure. Find out more at https://yourdentalhealthresource.com/can-children-have-tmj/
